Pope Eugene I dies. His reign was characterized by great deference towards the secular ruling powers. Pope Eugene I only ascended to the papal throne after Emperor Constans exiled his predecessor, Pope Martin I, and Eugene displayed no overt acts of defiance against Constans, the patriarchs of Constantinople, or especially their promotion of the heresy of Monothelitism.

Put simply, Pope Eugene I turned a blind eye towards a major heresy within the Christian church in order to hold on to his job.
