The Food and Drug Administration's Reproductive Health Advisory Committee recommends that the FDA give approval to the marketing of RU-486 for women up to the 49th day of pregnancy.

The committee has reviewed French studies of RU-486 as well as an ongoing trial of 2,100 U.S. women, concluding that mifepristone is safe and effective.
