Decided: Bellotti vs. Baird — The Supreme Court votes 8-1 to overturn a Massachusetts law that requires minors under the age of 18 to get parental consent before they can have an abortion.

The majority opinion written by Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr. does, however, leave open the door that such requirements may be constitutional if there are alternatives available, like a hearing before a state judge.
