In the House of Commons, Minister of Health Kenneth Robinson announces sharp new restrictions on Scientology in Britain. The recent growth if Scientology is deemed "objectionable" and Scientology itself is declared "socially harmful."

The Scientology "college" in East Grinstead and all other institutions will no longer be accredited as educational establishments, foreign nationals will not be granted student visas to study Scientology in Britain, and anyone trying to enter Britain to study Scientology will be turned away.

According to Robinson:

"The Government are satisfied, having reviewed all the available evidence, that Scientology is socially harmful. It alienates members of families from each other and attributes squalid and disgraceful motives to all who oppose it.

Its authoritarian principles and practices are a potential menace to the personality and well-being of those so deluded as to become its follower.

Above all, its methods can be a serious danger to the health of those who submit to them. There is evidence that children are now being indoctrinated.

There is no power under the existing law to prohibit the practice of Scientology, but the Government have concluded that it is so objectionable that it would be right to take all steps within its power to curb its growth."
