Because of Iran's de facto (but not full) recognition of the state of Israel in 1950, Egypt expels the Iranian ambassador.

Iranian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Abbas Aram, calls Nasser a "feeble-minded pharaoh of Egypt" and says:

"This feeble-minded man plans to assume the leadership of all the Muslim countries of the world, but we neither want his leadership nor his protection, and he cannot act as a spokesman for the other Muslim countries."
