Law of Return: All Jews are granted an automatic right to live in and become citizens of Israel. In 1970, this will be extended to all people of Jewish ancestry as well as their spouses.

What's left unsaid in the law is who a "Jew" is and what "Jewish" means. This creates heated debates in Israel over the nature of Jewishness and Judaism — debates with significant religious and political implications.
