Hitler Tells Cabinet Ministers to Avoid Upsetting Catholic Leadership

Adolf Hitler, 1940

Adolf Hitler tells his cabinet ministers that the German government must avoid doing anything which would worsen their relationship with the Catholic Church.

Hitler is concerned that if Germany pushes Catholic leaders too far, they will be willing to start pushing back.

Catholic leaders command enough authority both in the general population and in the military to undermine Hitler's plans if they use that authority against him.
