On orders from Adolf Hitler, the great synagogue in Munich is destroyed. By this point there are only around 3,000 Jews left in Munich, and the rabbi in charge of the synagogue is only given a few hours notice before demolition begins.

Several hundred Jews quickly gather to remove all the scrolls and other important objects from the synagogue before they are lost in the demolition.
