Reconstruction: Tennessee becomes the first U.S. State to be readmitted to the Union following the American Civil War. This is due in part to the fact that Tennessee is the only southern state to ratify the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

This also ensures that Tennessee is not made part of a military district under a military governor and martial law, as per the Reconstruction Acts of 1867.
