Joseph Arthur Comte de Gobineau is born. A French diplomat, Gobineau will develop theories of race and white supremacism. According to Gobineau, culture is a product of immutable racial characteristics, and the white race, being the superior human race, has also created the best human culture.

Although he believes that Germany can help reinvigorate the Aryan white race, he doesn't believe that Jews are an inferior race.

Because of this, when the Nazis adopt Gobineau's theories they have to extensively edit his books in order to make them fit their agenda (much as they do with Friedrich Nietzsche's writings).
