The earliest known Methodist camp meeting in America is held in Logan County, Kentucky. It is led by James McGready at the Gasper River, and similar meetings will be held all over in the coming years.

The largest early camp meeting will be held at Cane Ridge, Kentucky, in 1801 and will attract around 20,000 participants.
