The Pittsburgh Gazette becomes the first newspaper west of the Alleghenies to be published. The paper's name will later changed to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Originally a four-page weekly publication, one of its first major articles will be coverage of the newly adopted Constitution of the United States.
