While in in Enfield, Connecticut, Jonathan Edwards preached his classic sermon, 'Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,' a key step in the beginning of New England's Great Awakening.

This sermon is also a prime example of "fire and brimstone" preaching because of its vivid imagery of hell, but the actual preaching style of Jonathan Edwards is really fairly quiet and gentle.

Nothing in the sermon is genuinely new, but it is effective and persuasive. It's not only treated as important during the Great Awakening, but it will continue to be read avidly by Christians for years to come.
