Adriaan Florisz Boeyens is made cardinal by Pope Leo X. Adriaan will later become Pope Adrian VI, the last non-Italian Pope until John Paul II. Adrian will also be one of only two modern popes to keep the name he is baptized with rather than adopt a new name upon assuming the office of pope.

For the past few months, he has been Inquisitor General of Aragon, a position which Pope Leo X also appointed him to.
