In Brandenburg, Germany, Joachim the Elector has more than three dozen Jews burned at the stake alive after being accused of desecrating church objects. Two of the accused converted to Christianity, then were beheaded.

Accusations made against Jews about desecrating something holy to Christianity is a common basis for anti-Jewish pogroms throughout the Middle Ages, though the accusation usually focuses on the desecration of the Host (communion wafer) rather than objects in a church.

These accusations connect backwards to the accusation that Jews killed God (with deicide being the ultimate act of desecration) and then forward as well to accusations about Jews being involved in a world-wide conspiracy to destroy Christianity.
