Religious History

Saint Bonaventure, a leading Franciscan theologian and author, dies in Lyon. Bonaventure is an important figure in medieval scholastic philosophy and took a very different approach from his contemporaries.

Whereas others work on integrating Aristotle into Christian theology, Bonaventure argued that reason and logic must be regarded as inferior to the heart. He thus represents a more mystical tradition within medieval Christianity.

Bonaventure still used Aristotle, but was more focused on Plato.
