Shlomo Yitzhaki, better known as Rashi, dies in France. Rashi was a medieval Jewish scholar whose commentary on the Talmud was so comprehensive and influential that he comes to be known as the "father" of all following Talmudic commentaries. There will even be commentaries on his commentaries, his works become so important.

Rashi becomes popular and influential because his commentaries are not merely insightful, but easy enough for beginners to read. This makes his works appealing both to advanced scholars and students equally.
