Pope Benedict I dies. Benedict has reigned during a time when the Lombards have been attacking papal lands and even Rome itself from the north.

These constant incursions will prove to be such a strain on the papacy and the Roman government that they have to request an army be sent by the Eastern emperor. This helps, but the relief is only short-lived. Eventually famine hits Rome and this contributes to the death of Pope Benedict I himself.
