Valentinian III begins his reign over the Western Roman Empire. He technically became emperor in 425 when he was six years old, but his mother, Galla Placidia, acted as regent until now. She will continue to have significant political influence over the imperial court in Rome.

Galla Placidia is the daughter of the Roman Emperor Theodosius I and was empress consort to Constantius III from 417-422.
