Future Pope Pius XII Reassures Nazis that Politics Won't Jeopardize Relations With Vatican

Vatican Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli, the future Pope Pius XII, sends a message to the Nazi government telling them that purely political issues will never interfere with the good relations between the Vatican and the Nazis.

One example of what the Vatican and other Catholic leaders consider to be a "religious" issue is the Nazi push for sterilization laws. Press censorship, eliminating basic civil rights, completely disenfranchising Jews, persecution of Catholic priests in Poland, and eventually the mass murder of Jews apparently all qualify as "purely political issues" in the eyes of Eugenio Pacelli because none of these ever lead to any problems in the good relations between the Nazis and the Vatican.
