One of the last places in the west to adopt the Gregorian calendar is Russia when it is introduced by the Council of People's Commissars.

The Gregorian calendar was originally created by Pope Gregory XIII and introduced with a papal bull in 1582. Because of the difference between the Gregorian and Julian calendars, Wednesday, January 31, 1918 in Russia will be followed by Thursday, February 14, 1918.
