Vladimir Lenin dies in Gorki, USSR. Born Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov in a rural town on the Volga River, the name Lenin was adopted in 1902 as a cadre name after the Siberian river Lena.

Over the course of 1922 Lenin has suffered three strokes, with the third leaving him bed-ridden and mute until his death.
