Saar Region Votes to Return to German Rule

Nazi Parade in the Saar

Timeline of History

Political History

The Saar region votes on its status: should it remain independent or should it rejoin Germany, now under Nazi control. This region had been taken from Germany by the Treaty of Versailles and placed under control of the League of Nations.

Now, after 15 years, they are permitted to vote on whether they want to retain this status, become part of France, or rejoin Germany. Almost 91% of voters want to voluntarily be placed under the German dictatorship, which will officially happen on March 1.
