Menno Simons officially leaves the priesthood of the Catholic Church. Born in 1496, Simons was a Roman Catholic priest whose study of the Bible led to more question than answers.

After a period of soul-searching he decided to leave the priesthood and join the Anabaptist movement in Münster, Germany. Menno Simons' followers will continue to exist down through the modern age and will be known as Mennonites.
