Carl Linnaeus is born in Sweden. A botanist and zoologist, Linnaeus will establish the foundations of modern biological taxonomy and will eventually be regarded as a father of modern ecology.

The binomial nomenclature used in modern biology are created by Carl Linnaeus, though many of the groupings will change over time as biologists learn more about which flora and fauna are closely related and which aren't.
