King Edward of England dies in London. Known as Edward the Confessor because he has been such a pious ruler, he ordered the construction of Westminster Abbey and will be the only Anglo-Saxon as well as the only English king to be made a saint.

However, the lack of a clear heir upon his death leads to the invasion of William the Conqueror in September of this year, ending Anglo-Saxon rule over England entirely and replacing the ruling class with French aristocracy.
