In MacGregor, Manitoba, 17-year-old Chris Tait is suspended when he refuses to stand during a recitation of the Lord's Prayer. An atheist and the vice-president of the student council, this is the second time he's been disciplined for this and he faces expulsion if he continues.

Chris Tait is planning to file a legal complaint against the school and says:

"I'm hoping that I'm going to get a lot of help from the public on this. I want the public to write the Pine Creek school board or phone them...and let Pine Creek school board know that this is wrong. ...

It's absurd for me to be suspended for observing my human rights. ...

I'm an atheist, but I have no problems with anyone else exercising their religion and that's as far as my beliefs go."

Chris Tait has permission from his parents to not participate in religious exercises, but he refuses to stand outside the classroom until they are done:

"I'm as entitled to be in that classroom as anyone else. It's just an inconvenience. There's no chairs out in the hall. I can still hear it anyway so what's the point? I'd rather be with my friends."
