Bishop Maximilian Josef Johannes Kaller of Ermland issues a statement that only candidates from the Catholic Center Party can be relied upon to uphold Catholic principles.

According to Bishop Kaller :

"Even though National Socialism displays certain attractive features, we must refuse to support it as long as it still adhere to those principles which the German bishops have rejected as being heresy."

This is a rare instance of Catholic leader making a very direct and unambiguous criticism of the Nazi Party but it won't be repeated when Germans need to hear it most.
