Mormons begin a fourth constitutional convention in Salt Lake City in their quest for statehood. As with the first three attempts, Congress will refuse to accept the bid for statehood. At this time Mormons are still insisting that their new state be called Deseret, even though Congress had already renamed the area Utah Territory.
