Golda Meir is sworn in as Israel's first female prime minister. Exposed early in her life to Zionist ideology, Golda Meir became a committed socialist and Zionist, moving with her husband to a kibbutz in Palestine in 1921.

There she became very active in politics and after World War II she personally raised large amounts of money in America to buy arms in Europe. According to David Ben-Gurion, Golda Meir was the "Jewish woman who got the money which made the state possible."
