Callistus II is elected pope. Known for having finally settled the investiture conflict with secular rulers, Pope Callistus II will also preside over the First Lateran Council.

During the First Lateran Council the bishops will not only confirm the Concordat of Worms, but will also pass a number of new reforms like standards regarding the marriage of priests.

Until Callistus' papacy the marriage of a priest is regarded as valid, even if it is also sinful. Under Pope Callistus II such marriages will be declared null and void. The women who are involved in these relationships are left to their own devices and given no consideration.
