Romania institutes the anti-Semitic "Law for the Protection of the State," making Jews eligible for double the punishment given to others for the same crimes.

Romania is one of many nations in the Nazi sphere of influence which passes increasingly harsh anti-Semitic laws. Whether due to overt pressure from Nazi Germany or simply because local fascists enthusiastically share the Nazi hatred of Jews, these laws serve to alienate Jews from local populations. In the long run, this will make it easier to round them up and deport them to extermination camps.
