The government of Nazi Germany issues a decree forcing all German boys and girls to join the Hitler Youth or the National Socialist League of German Girls and, moreover, to actively participate in the organizations' work. The Hitler Youth is now the only legal youth organization in Germany and is thus made an official state organ responsible for organizing all the youth in the entire German nation.
The new decree says:
"All German youth within the Reich borders are united in the Hitler Youth.
All German youth, outside parents homes and schools, are to be trained, bodily, mentally, spiritually and morally, in the spirit of National Socialism for service to the nation and to the unified people.
Responsibility for training all German youth in the Hitler Youth is given to the Reich Youth Leader of the National Socialist party. He therewith assumes the title Youth Leader ot the German Reich. His administration assumes the character of the highest grade of Reich administration, directly responsible to the Führer and Reich Chancellor.
Ordinances and general administrative regulations necessary for the enforcement of this decree will be issued by the Führer and Reich Chancellor."
Baldur von Schirach will be the first Reich Youth Leader and declares: "The lives of all German youths belong solely to Adolf Hitler."
