Mitt Romney declares that corporations are people and, presumably, deserve all the same rights, privileges, and considerations that flesh-and-blood people do as American citizens.

"Corporations are people, my friend. ...

Of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings, my friend. ...

You get to ask your question, I get to give my answer and if you don't like my answer you can vote for someone else"

- Speech during a visit to the Iowa State Fair

Mitt Romney will be mocked relentlessly for his apparent desire to treat corporations as if they were functionally identical to real human beings. There is precedent for treating corporations like fictional persons for specific contexts (like lawsuits), but nothing as broad as declaring them to be "people."
