David Waters, currently a suspect in the 1995 disappearance of atheist activist Madalyn Murray-O'Hair, is sentenced to eight years in prison on federal weapons charges.

A week earlier he received a sentence of 60 years for stealing more than $50,000 from Madalyn Murray-O'Hair's atheist organization.

U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks cites the fact that David Waters is a three-time felon with a long criminal history, including a 1965 murder conviction:

"Mr. Waters has a total and abject disrespect for the law. I have nothing to indicate he will not commit further offences. ...

It is my opinion you should be kept out of society for as long as possible."

David Waters used to be employed by Madalyn Murray O'Hair as an office manager.
