American Bar Association Asks Legal Profession to Purge Communists From Ranks

Timeline of History

History Topics

The House of Delegates of the American Bar Association unanimously approves, without any debate, a measure calling upon the legal profession to purge communists from its ranks.

The House of Delegates is the policy-making body for the bar association and is headed by Senator Herbert O'Connor of Maryland.

Ultimately it won't be possible to enforce this recommendation — not because of protests, which are slight and feeble, but rather simply because it would require too large a bureaucracy and would end up being too unreliable.
