Rita Antoinette Rizzo enters a cloistered Franciscan monastery in Cleveland, Ohio. Her commitment to a religious life stems from the belief that she was miraculously healed overnight of painful stomach problems.

Rizzo will later assume the name Angelica and eventually become known internationally as Mother Angelica, founder of the Eternal World Television Network in Alabama.

In order to avoid a confrontation with her mother, who opposes the idea of her entering a convent, she leaves secretly and informs her mother with a letter she leaves behind.
