Germany's Catholic Bishops Criticize Suppression of Free Press by Nazis

Catholic bishops in Germany issue a statement critical of the suppression of press freedom by the Nazis, but only insofar as it prevents Catholic newspapers from publishing articles with religious content.

What this means is that while Catholic bishops object to the absence of religious material in Catholic publications, they don't really object to the elimination of a free press throughout Germany generally — including in Catholic publications.
