Friedrich Nietzsche dies in Weimar, Germany, at the age of 55. Ever since childhood he has suffered from various illness which have only grown worse.

In 1879 he had to resign from his teaching post at the University of Basel due to ill health. Since his mental collapse in 1889 he has suffered from one incident of pneumonia and at least two strokes, including one yesterday.

His sister, Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche has already started assuming control over his documents and writings, and this process will quicken now that Nietzsche is gone.

Although she doesn't entirely understand what she reads, she sees much that can be used in the service of her own nationalistic, anti-Semitic beliefs — it just requires some creative editing, which she is more than happy to do. This will make her a welcome supporter of the Nazi movement in a few years.
