Alois Hitler Promoted to Higher Customs Officer

Alois Hitler

Alois Hitler is promoted to Higher Customs Officer of Passau. Because all of his work has to be done on the German side of the border, he moves his family to 23 Theresien Strasse, Passau.

This is where Adolf Hitler will live until April 1895 and where he will later claim that he acquires his Lower Bavarian accent.

Hitler will say:

"The German of my youth was the dialect of Lower Bavaria; I could neither forget it nor learn the Viennese jargon."
