David Caleb Cook is born in New York City. Cook will develop the original Sunday School curriculum in the United States.

David C. Cook starts the work when he is still in his teens and focuses on developing inexpensive materials that can be afforded by even poor churches.

In 1875 Cook and his wife Marguerite will found the David C. Cook Publishing Company, which they will eventually move to Elgin, Illinois. It will become a leading evangelical publishing house, churning out large amounts of fundamentalist literature for churches and Sunday Schools.
