Siege of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem: Israeli forces have entered Bethlehem as part of Operation Defensive Shield in order to capture Palestinian militants.

Dozens take refuge in the Church of the Nativity and will stay there for 39 days. In exchange for surrendering, the militants are exiled to Europe and the Gaza Strip instead of being taken into custody.
