A fire erupts in an overcrowded tent city of at least 2 million pilgrims on the hajj, just outside of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

At least 343 pilgrims are killed and another 1,500 are injured. According to witnesses, the cause of the fire was exploding cooking gas. Henceforth there will be requirements that all tents be fireproof.
