United States Embassy Bombing: A truck bomb is driven into the U.S. embassy in Beirut, killing 17 Americans and 46 Lebanese. Among the American dead are 8 employees of the CIA.

This is the deadliest attack on a U.S. foreign mission to date and is generally regarded as the beginning of Islamist anti-American terrorist attacks.
