Gerald L. K. Smith dies. A white supremacist, racist, and anti-Semite, Smith founded in 1944 the America First Party, an isolationist political party. Around this same time Smith joined William Dudley Pelley's pro-Nazi Silver Legion, which had been modeled after Hitler's SA.
In 1942 he founded the Christian Nationalist Crusade, and in 1948, he ran for president on the Christian Nationalist Party ticket.
The Christian Nationalist Crusade was an anti-Semitic organization which, according to Gerald Smith, was designed to
"preserve America as a Christian nation being conscious of a highly organized campaign to substitute Jewish tradition for Christian tradition."
