Saudi Arabia announces that Israel would not be permitted to use the Gulf of Aqaba for shipping. They also threaten to open fire on any Israeli ship that dares even head for the Straights of Tiran to reach Israel's gulf port of Eilat.

According to Saudi Arabia, they have both historical and natural claims on the Straights of Tiran and the entire Gulf of Aqaba as "territorial waters" which they have the authority to control.
