German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer is executed by hanging in the Flossenbürg concentration camp. In just three weeks this prison will be liberated by the Allies.

Bonhoeffer's captors have executed him in full knowledge that they will lose the war soon but they want to make sure that the end of the war will not see the release and restoration of Bonhoeffer.

As a German theologian and minister, Dietrich Bonhoeffer was active in the religious protest against Nazi policies. Bonhoeffer focused first on peaceful and diplomatic efforts to stop Hitler, but after finding that such methods achieved nothing he joined a plot led by military officers to assassinate Hitler — a plot which failed.
