The Ustashe fascists take control of Croatia in the wake of the German invasion of Yugoslavia. Alojzije Viktor Stepinac, archbishop of Zagreb, sends the Ustashe leader Ante Pavelic his congratulations.

The Ustashe issue the order that "all those who in any way offend the honor and vital interests of the Croatian people" will be subject to capital punishment.
