Kishinev Pogrom: Anti-Semitic newspapers in Kishinev, Russia, accuse Jews of murdering children and after leaving church on this Easter Sunday, Christians begin rioting against local Jews.

Several dozens are killed; police and other government authorities make absolutely no effort to stop the riots or protect the Jews. As a result there is a mass exodus of Jews out of the region and out of other parts of Russia. The pogrom in Kishinev becomes a rallying point for early secular Zionists.
