Friedrich Nietzsche proposes marriage to Mathilde Trampedach in Geneva, Switzerland. She refuses because she is in love with her piano teacher — and besides, the two only met each other a few days ago.

Ironically, the only other person Friedrich Nietzsche tells about this and to whom he entrusts with the letter proposing marriage is the one person they both know: that same piano teacher.
